Problem sets

There will be six problem sets that consist of five problems each, and each problem can give up to ten points. In order to pass, one must obtain at least 200 points in total, and at least 15 on each set. In addition, one must successfully complete the literature project.

Problem set 1. Deadline: October 11.

Problem set 2. Deadline: October 25.

Problem set 3. Deadline: November 8.

Problem set 4. Deadline: November 22.

Problem set 5. Deadline: December 6.

Problem set 6. Corrected on December 17. Deadline: December 20.

Policy

Your solutions must reflect your work. It is acceptable to discuss the problems with fellow course participants, but you write down the solutions yourself and never write anything that you do not understand.

Inevitably, solutions and/or hints may sometimes be found on the internet or in other sources. You are not supposed to make use of that. If you cannot avoid it, you must give reference to all outside help that you have used. (This could result in a lower score being awarded for this solution.) The bottom line is, never pretend that other people's work is your own.
